scenerio: a kid tells their parents they want to be trans. the parent says

"I will support you in any choice you make......after you are 18. you need time to consider this. it's a very big decision and you are much too young to understand it"

then Justin Trudoue and his goons break down the door and take the kid away

How delusional are you that this is what you think is going on.

Or that you think it's tell their parents they want to be trans... Here's the thing. If you are trans then you're trans whether or not you have the surgery and whether or not you tell your parents. This law is to protect children that suffer other abuses as well as being denied their personal identity and bodily autonomy. These kids are left to suffer with dysmorphia when denied basic treatment.

All teens can get is hormone therapy to delay puberty and delay irreversible changes. Should you deny that treatment you are causing additional difficulty whether or not they wish to transition later.

You can stop hormones any time to resume the body's growth and puberty.

You voted for Trump.

doesn't matter. I was on your side all summer. I voted for Bernie in the summer election. and in the final election I was going to vote for either libretarian or green. at literally the last moment I changed my mind because I got scared that Hillary might win. and I thought what if my vote ends up mattering? you think that the person you vote for defines your entire life. that is a mistake and it is black and white thinking. my vote for Trump doesn't mean anything. I am not a trump supporter. I disagree with about 90% of the things he has done. I probably hate Trump more than you do actually. but you wouldn't understand.

How is this a non-issue? This is almost like thought policing; if parents don't agree with this gender crap then their kids get taken away? so just because some people have a different opinion on something that still is a huge debate, they lose out because they don't conform the the majority progressive opinion?

and then people on social media in droves tell those same parents they deserve it or they're terrible people?

This isn't how it works please research what is actually being put forward

It's not. Canada explicitly responded to these claims, saying that such cases only can be taken into account as part of an already-established pattern of abuse.

I think in this day and age moving in together isn't the big step it used to be. Lots of people cohabitate and don't intend to be married. If anything it prevents divorces by bringing the incompatibility to the forefront and breaking things up before it gets to marriage

Anyway good luck I'm probably doing the same with my partner in the next few months. More expensive for both of us but also more enjoyable.

Nah. It's just highlights. And she's 13. she can decide how she wants her hair to look.

Parents have discretion until kids are 18. The cutoff isn't 13.

Well the father showed the maturity of less than 13 but whatever.

And honestly, parents don't like it one bit, but the cutoff is whenever the kid can start making their own reasonable choices.

Not to mention adolescence is the time for identity building. If you're not allowing your children to make some choices about their appearance, an expression of self and identity, you're setting them up for serious issues. And by forcing an identity on a person as they're struggling to define themselves, that's devastating to their personal growth as a human being.

That's not saying let them do everything they want... But no way in hell should a parent be forcibly removing their teen daughter's hair

It's called "parenting." Parents routinely "impose" their will on their children's appearance, whether it's to stop a child from getting a mohawk or limiting what they can wear.

Healthy parents do not force their children to cut off their hair for getting highlights. A highlight treatment that was a gift another parent gave to the child. My God. Parents can punish their children, this is an unbelievable overstepping in punishment for something that could have been reversed with a box of hair dye if need be.

What's that going to teach her? What's the life lesson? Can't highlight my hair for a few years until I move out and can freely color my hair like the majority of women. or can't trust my father?

Zeus posted...
That's a lot worse than this.

That doesn't make this ok at all. And that line is something abusers tell their victims

Zeus posted...
There are a lot of girls who wear their hair short (especially since celebs have been doing it), whereas there's no good precedent for a guy in a dress which makes it a much stronger case for child abuse.

A boy can take the dress off eventually. This girl can not get her hair back until it grows back. At that length that's a few years of growth. Boy wouldn't be wearing the dress for years. And if parents were forcing a teen boy to wear a dress in public against his will, especially for an extended period, yeah people would hear about it

It was also a gift from another parent. As in the other person who she gets rules from. We also have no idea of the dad said she couldn't get highlights before she did. He may have never mentioned highlights before and decided he didn't like them when he saw them...

We have no idea if he did, but at the same time they should've consulted him as the other person who she gets rules from. Separated parents is a tricky situation, but that means you need to be more considerate of everybody's interests, not less.

Seems like the mom had a rule against cutting off the daughter's hair and making her cry, but hey, we know he didn't consult on that. You can undo highlights in hair, hair color exists. It would have been overbearing but coloring the hair back to the natural color maaaaaybe would be punishment.

You can't uncut all of that hair. Or untraumatize your child. What a total lack of respect for her agency as a fucking human being by that garbage father

It's fucked up to impose your will on someone else's body and image, including forcing them to cut off their hair. It's hair. Part of the body. Sacred in some cultures. It's not like some PlayStation or a skimpy outfit you can take away.

That would be devastating for most of the teen girls I've known. Heck I was a teen with short hair. Kids can be shitty, and to deal with that when you didn't even want the look... Terrible controlling parenting with no empathy.

Medication changes are a b****, but sometimes they are for the better. I stayed on Ziprasidone for years because I was afraid to go off it. Luckily (but not really) I had a bad episode and gained 70lbs in 3 months and decided to try changing. Ended up realizing a lot of my problems were actually due to the medication, such as not being able to wake up in the morning. Still haven't lost the weight though.

Its also crazy holding those pills in your hands and realizing how little it takes to completely change you mentally.

Do you take any vitamin D?

Wow! That sucks. Weight gain is a real issue. I had that problem with citalopram. It was more gradual but I put on so much weight. Hasn't really come off after discontinuation.

The wrong medications are very scary. And it's such a gamble.

It's not just those pills. It's how sensitive the brain is to any changes in chemistry. Some things mere micrograms in your body will blow your mind. But it helps keep in perspective that yes, brains are very susceptible to alerted states.

Due to diet I take B12 and D3 weekly. I've missed a couple D3 doses after they ran out. So I'm gonna grab some after work tomorrow. Good call on that

You mean back when Hillary fucking Clinton still believed Marriage was still meant to be between a man and a woman? The year after I graduated high school? That 1997?

It's very easy to view things from the past thru the lens of how things are now and have a wildly misguided perception.

What?

I'm taking about that because things have changed so much so rapidly. That's just what the attitudes were at the time. The Simpsons handled it pretty well and even progressively for the time. But that was then.

You seem really upset by this. I just personally find it fascinating thinking back to what things were and how different it was, when it really wasn't all that long ago. Only 20 years. Feels like people have come a long way in a relatively short time. I'm happy things have moved forward now and of course attitudes will continue to change in time. Thank god we're not socially stagnant

Kind of like how the current witch Hunt atmosphere in Hollywood and politics has created an atmosphere where merely trying to get laid or making a pass at a woman draws cries of "sexual harassment" and "#metoo".

And yeah, sorry not sorry, but putting Harvey Weinstein's casting couch on par with Aziz Ansari trying to get some strange from a girl who had regrets after the fact is part of the whole problem with this judging the past by today's standards.

Devoid of context, it's easy to spin something into something it wasn't.

Oh! Anyone remember the Simpsons episode where Homer made a friend with John, and was scared and disgusted when he realized John is homosexual? And Homer then does everything that's super masculine to try and prevent Bart from becoming gay? Yeah that was 1997

Have you ever even actually watched that episode? The whole point of the episode was that Homer was being bigoted towards John. Homer is constantly presented as being in the wrong for how he acts towards him.

Yeah, I'm a big Simpsons fan for the first 9 seasons. Yes I understand that's the point. Homer makes an ass of himself. As he does in most episodes with a lesson.

Rewatching this episode in the last few months is why I brought it up.

The portrayal of John is what stood out to me the most. It feels like it's very different to how someone would be shown now. The whole episode just felt very stuck in time and not at all like modern culture. 20 years later the Simpsons has moved past needing to teach that lesson so we'd never need to see it again.

The lesson was pretty progressive for the time. How they did it with John is dated.
